Foster Parrots, Ltd.
Virtual Adoption

As a parrot rescue organization we feel strongly that education is a vital part of our mission. We are reaching out to our community in an effort to inform the future generations of the problems caused by the impulsive purchase of any pet, but particularly a parrot. We also hope that by offering a virtual adoption program that many will be able to participate in the care of unwanted or neglected parrots. We offer this program in lieu of an appeal for donations because we feel that it is important for all to see the benefit of their kindness.

Virtual adoptions are available to individuals as well as to groups.

Classrooms, clubs, scouting groups and individuals may virtually adopt a parrot from our current population. The adoption term is one year. Adoption includes:

  • A Certificate of Adoption for your bird or birds.

  • A photograph of your adopted bird or birds with a biography of each.

  • A data sheet giving biological information about your bird's species and a biography of your adopted bird.

  • A map showing the natural habitats of your bird.

  • You may request up to two written updates.

  • E-mail communication concerning your bird's health, diet and life here at Foster Parrots.

  • You are welcome to send special bird-safe toys or treats specifically for your bird.

  • Visits (groups of 2 maximum) to your parrot at our sanctuary by appointment.

  • For group adoptions only, a visit by Foster Parrots and two or three of our parrot ambassadors to your organization or classroom with a 45-minute discussion on parrots as captive wild animals, rainforest destruction and its impact on wild parrot populations, domesticated versus wild animals as pets and the thoughts that should go into making a responsible decision when choosing a pet.

The adoption rates are:

  • $75.00 - Large birds like large Cockatoos and Macaws

  • $50.00 - Medium birds like small Cockatoos, Amazons, African Greys, Conures

  • $25.00 - Small birds like Lovebirds, Cockatiels and Parakeets

You may choose a bird currently featured on our website or you can specify a species and ask us to choose one for you.

Send your check and a brief note indicating your Virtual Adoption preference to:

Here are pictures from our visit to the Woodsdale School in Abington, MA.  Four classes held a bake sale and a penny drive and raised more than $450.00, $200.00 of which was donated to Foster Parrots to help with the care of our parrots and the remainder going to preserve 6 acres of rainforest land. We thank these children and their teachers for this wonderful and thoughtful effort.

Foster Parrots would like to thank the teachers and their students for their hard work and enthusiasm.

All of the children were very well behaved and we were impressed with their questions.

We learned as much from them as they did from us.

Thanks again to you all!
