but we are also concerned with the efforts to alert the public to the injustices of the pet trade and the keeping of flighted animals who have an incredible intelligence as captives for our own desires.

Foster Parrots joins JGI in Day of Peace celebrations
On September 24, 2005, Foster Parrots will sponsor this year's Jane Goodall's Institute's Day of Peace in Guyana. Click here to read more...

October 10, 2005 -  Marc Johnson, Director of Foster Parrots, will be speaking at the Cape Cod Bird Club and presenting In Wilderness is the Preservation of the World - Conservation of Wild Parrots. The club meets at 7:30 p.m. at the Museum of Natural History, 869, Route 6A, Brewster, Massachusetts. For more information, check the club's website www.massbird.org/ccbc

Brian Cullity, also a Board member at Foster Parrots, with his wanderlust for the road less traveled, has opened a new avenue for conservation efforts by the avian welfare/rights community. Trips to Ecuador; Chiapas, Mexico (to see the last of the wild Scarlet Macaws there); Brazil and most recently back to Guyana, have served to educate us in our efforts to become involved in the preservation of parrots in their native lands and, thus, take away the argument offered by the captive breeding industry (for profit rather than true preservation) that they are the only hope for our grandchildren to see parrots.

At the time of this writing, we are awaiting a grant for our Guyana Project, and Brian Cullity and Director Marc Johnson will be returning to Guyana in December of 2004 to scout new locations for a tourist lodge. We hope to offer the public our first Foster Parrots - Guyana Eco-Tour in the fall of 2005. Stay tuned for more information as this develops...

Foster Parrots is also staying very active in working with other animal rights/welfare organizations and the need to alert those concerned about animal exploitation to the looming storm clouds in the parrot world. We were admitted as members of the Massachusetts Animal Coalition earlier this year where we, just by our presence, are opening the eyes of many animal rescuers and shelters to the growing parrot overpopulation problem.

We were able to attend the "Empty Cages" conference in October, 2004, where parrots are now included in the Animals Platform.

Another important project that we are passionate about getting started is a permanent sanctuary, The National Parrot Sanctuary, where many of our wilder birds and the many birds who will need sanctuary in the future can live the rest of their lives as free as possible. There is a very long way to go on this project, but everyone agrees that this is a situation that needs to be addressed soon. We welcome and invite your participation in bringing The National Parrot Sanctuary to life.

I gave Foster Parrots $2,600.00 and all I got was this lousy t-shirt!

Sarah Lutvak recently celebrated her Bat Mitzvah and instead of accepting gifts for herself, Sarah asked that donations be made to Foster Parrots.

Sarah delivered a check to Foster Parrots on November 14, 2004, for $2,600.00, bringing the staff to the point of tears at the wonderful gift of this amazing 13-year old girl!

Sarah and her father, Larry, volunteered at Foster Parrots, and we have been very fortunate to know this wonderful family. Sarah hopes to be a marine biologist, and with her deep compassion for life we are sure she will be a great one!

In the meantime, we will continue to do what we have always done, rescue one at a time, providing them safe haven. We thank all of our supporters for their continued help with our cause.
